Smartcard section of The Open University of Tanzania (OUT) designs and produces students’ identity cards, staff identity cards and business cards for OUT staff and business companies in Dar es Salaam. The section is capable of producing 600 cards per day using highly equipped machines, well trained staff and recent technology materials.
Cards of two different technologies are produced. One of the cards categories can store owner’s information using a small electronic chip embedded. Cards of this category are known as smart cards. Smart cards offers ability to store information that can be used to authenticate the owner in swapping and related integrated technologies systems like smart doors and gates, smart electronic attendance registers and others that requires access control. The other cards category has no electronic chip embedded. These cards are named plain cards.
Printings made on cards contain information required by the organization to particularly identify the owner of the card and the organization itself in different areas of use. They also contain easy way to check how legit is the card by means of barcode and hardcoded organization logo that a responsible entity in the organization can verify in case of forgery.
